Police are turning up the heat on a former Food Network star.
Juan-Carlos Cruz, who was once the host of “Calorie Commando” and “Take It Off,” is accused of plotting to hire homeless people to carry out a murder scheme, police in Santa Monica, Calif., said Friday.
Details of the plot and who it was meant to target were not released.
Police were alerted to the situation by some of the homeless people Cruz allegedly recruited, according to CNN. Cruz was arrested Thursday and charged with solicitation to commit murder.

LOS ANGELES — With a wink and smile at his wife, former Calorie Commando TV chef Juan-Carlos Cruz was sentenced to nine years in prison Monday after pleading no contest to trying to hire two homeless men to murder her.
