Food Network Star Exit Interview: Howie Drummond
Week one is in the books and sadly Howie Drummond is the first to go. I interviewed Howie about a month ago and I can say he is a very likable guy. Today I was able to chat with him again, this time about his exit.
So what was the number one topic of discussion on the radio show this morning?
Geez, there was a lot of number topics. Everybody just asking those kinds of questions about what it was like. Why I went home? A lot of people wondering why I went home. Other people totally understood why I went home. You know it’s a television show, a competition; it’s a contest. There’s really no answers to a lot of the questions that I had. If there is a answer I just have to hypothetically or theoretically say “this is what I would have done differently,” or “This is what I would have changed.”
It still was a fun, fantastic opportunity. I got millions of people to know and say my name.
So when you are voted off do they return you to the real world or do they lock you up in a Motel 8 on the other side of El Segundo?
Am I allowed to answer that?
As soon as you’re done you get to go in and say goodbye to everybody. You walk off set and then there’s a van waiting outside. It’s almost like a mafia coach, Stuart, when you think about it. There’s a van waiting for you with your good friends, your handlers that have been taking care of you for the past week and they try to console you and tell you that it wasn’t that bad. They hand you back your cell phone that you can turn back on. Then they drop you off at a hotel and they put you there for like three weeks.
If you’re the first one off you need to go sit in a hotel for awhile and that’s what I did.
The last time we spoke you were still in the early stages on Grill vs. Grill, how has that been going?
To compare it to a production like Food Network Star we’re a wrecking crew. I work with five guys including myself doing commando type stuff. I’m really happy, viewers are really into it. I love the concept. We’re having a huge party with this finale coming up June 11th. I couldn’t be happier and of course Food Network is a big driving force behind helping me do this.
