Tailgate Warriors Marathon

Jordan Hare StadiumBeing a chef and an avid football fan (War Eagle!) you gotta know I love tailgating.  I have had more than a dozen articles published on the subject in numerous publications including Tailgater Monthly where I am currently a contributor.  That’s why I’m pumped that Food Network is running a Tailgate Warriors marathon this weekend.

You aren’t familiar with the show?  Well to quote the host, here’s the 411:

Dr. BBQ Tailgate WarriorsGuy Fieri (Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, Guy’s Big Bite) searches for the top “tailgate warriors” as eight tailgating teams compete at NFL stadiums across the country in a four-week series. Each week, two teams must create two appetizers, one entrée, two sides and one dessert in an hour. They will be judged by a three-person panel and scored based on taste, creativity, difficulty and presentation. The two highest-scoring teams will move onto the championship round.

One of the judges for this series was Dr. BBQ Ray Lampe who I was lucky enough to interview just after the show wrapped.  Check it out HERE.  This past spring I joined Guy (and 500 others) for a special dinner in Gulf Shores, AL.  It was the fanciest “tailgate party” I’ve ever been to.  I, of course, was adorned in my official Auburn Tigers BCS National Championship collector’s cap.  Guy was nice enough to give me a few minutes of his time for this interview:

The Tailgate Warriors marathon starts Saturday at 7PM ET and repeating again at midnight Sunday morning on the Food Network.

Grill It! with Bobby Flay Marathon

Memorial Day is the official unofficial start to the summer grilling season and to celebrate, as they do every year, Food Network is in the throws of it’s Grilling Week.   It started on the Sunday before Memorial Day with a Food Network Challenge that featured a battle of the sexes All Star Grill-Off followed by Iron Chef: America pitting Curtis Stone against the grill master himself Bobby Flay.

Grill It!Those were just warm ups.  FN is kicking off Memorial Day with a four and half hour marathon of Grill It! with Bobby Flay, the companion series to the Iron chef’s popular cookbook.  The marathon will feature a dozen episodes from various seasons so expect to see the comfortable Brooklyn back drop and the mountainous LA set as well.

For those who are unfamiliar Grill It! here’s the FN set-up:

Fans of Bobby Flay stop him at every corner, begging for a chance to cook with the chef – and now they can. Thirteen lucky Food Network viewers, all known for their own grill mastery, have been chosen to cook alongside the grilling guru himself in Grill It! with Bobby Flay. In each episode, the guest griller’s best recipe is the food of the day. The twist is that Chef Flay has no clue about the food of choice until the guest arrives, so he has to whip up his own recipe on the fly. It isn’t about the competition; it’s about the opportunity of a lifetime – to grill it with one of the best pit masters around.
