Real House Wives

7 Questions with Chef Brooke Peterson

7 Questions is a series of interviews with the culinary movers and shakers you want or ought to know better.

Tonight Food Network premieres one of it’s most highly anticipated and hyped series in quite some time.  Taking a cue from Bravo’s Real House Wives franchise they have developed Private Chefs of Beverly Hills – an inside look at Tinsel Town shindigs from the point of view of the culinary teams that put them together.

Brooke Peterson is a pioneer in new media lifestyle programming.  She was the star of Varsity Television’s teen cooking show Cook with Brooke.  From there she created and starred in Cheap N Easy back in 2006 which featured recipes and entertaining tips; teaching her audience to prepare meals in less than five minutes, using under five ingredients, all while costing less than five dollars.

Cheap N Easy was a mainstay on YAHOO! where Brooke was in good company with the likes of Martha Stewart, Wolfgang Puck and Rachael Ray.  Brooke has also worked as a correspondent for Showtime, V.I.P. Access, The T.V. Guide Channel, The Style Network, and most recently The Rachael Ray Show.  Along with the launch of Food Network’s Private Chefs of Beverly Hills, Brooke is looking forward to the next chapter, becoming a Mom and expanding her expertise to encompass what motherhood means to lifestyles, food, fashion and decor.

Chef Brooke was nice enough to answer 7 Questions:

1. How old were you when you first started to cook?

Brooke: I first started to cook with my Grandmother as a young girl.  My Grandmother taught me how to cook for big groups on a small budget and I always loved the smiles that her food put on peoples faces.  I was hooked early.

2. When did you decide that you could make food your career?

Brooke: It was probably college.  I found that I got into the best study groups because I always made the best study snacks, I took notice of the correlation between cooking and getting rewarded.

3. Which chefs have influenced you the most?

Brooke: Anthony Bourdain for his sense of adventure, Thomas Keller for his sense of perfection, and Rachael Ray and Sandra Lee for the sense of practicality. I have to say that even though she is not a chef I have been really inspired by Miss Martha Stewart.

4. If you hadn’t followed this career path, what other career could you see yourself in?

Brooke: Party Planner or teacher….  But I couldn’t really see myself doing anything else right now.

5. What’s the highlight of your career so far?

Brooke: I love a good challenge and I’d say filming Private Chefs of Beverly Hills while so very pregnant will be something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

6. Of all the crazy things you’ve seen at Big City Chefs what’s the craziest?

Brooke: Stuart, you’ll have to tune in to see what kind of trouble we get into at Big City Chefs on Private Chefs of Beverly Hills next week!

7. What’s next for Chef Brooke?

Brooke: I am having a baby next month, so I can most definitely say that that’s next!  I will be making some announcements on my site, www.ThingsYourMotherNeverTaughtYou.com soon too.

Private Chefs of Beverly Hills airs Fridays at 10p/9c on the Food Network.

Meet the Private Chefs of Beverly Hills

Food Network is set to premiere one of it’s most highly anticipated and hyped series in quite some time.  Taking a cue from Bravo’s Real House Wives franchise they have developed Private Chefs of Beverly Hills.  An inside look at Tinsel Town shindigs from the point of view of the culinary teams that put them together.

Here’s how TV Tango describes it:

Six gifted cooks from Big City Chefs cater dinner parties for some of the most extravagant, eclectic clients in L.A.’s poshest neighborhood. One day they prepare food for both humans and canines in a doggy spa. On the next job, they inject flavor into a salon’s Botox party. Next, they pamper young millionaires on a glamping trip — a glamorous camping trip. Who knows what the next job might bring? They might even be unwitting participants in a medieval murder mystery party held behind the stone walls of Los Angeles’ only Scottish castle.

So who are the Private Chefs of Beverly Hills (aka PCO90210)?

Access, The T.V. Guide Channel, The Style Network, and most recently on The Rachael Ray Show.  Brooke educates and entertains on her blog Things Your Mother Never Taught You.

Brune also teaches organic and vegetarian specialized cooking classes at the Epicurean Professional Culinary Academy in Beverly Hills and he opened Jesse Delivers…, a high-end, organic and healthy meal delivery service that caters to some of L.A.’s most exclusive clientele.  He also maintains his own web site, JesseBrune.com.

Here’s how gawker.tv describes it:

Skilled chefs in Hollywood, some of them gay, some of them foreign. High-end, demanding clients, most of them assholes. When the two worlds collide, it sounds like the recipe for success, right? Maybe!

Here’s the premise: The show follows around a company called Big City Chefs, which specializes in private catering. And guess what, all of their employees can not only cook, but they are just like, totally crazy. Not like your office. Your office just thinks it’s fun and unique and wacky. Just because Linda from accounts receivable got drunk and sang karaoke on the bar during the holiday party does not make your office unique. These guys put your stupid office to shame. Does your company have enough zany characters and conflict to have a television show? Yeah, didn’t think so. Well this one doesn’t really, either. But still! It’s on TV somehow!

Chef Brian Hill is a Top Chef alum having competed on the Bravo hit series back in season one.  This D.C. native has cooked for the likes of Eddie Murphy, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey and Mekhi Phifer.  Chef Brian combines Hip Hop cool with savvy sophistication and that has made him a favorite in L.A.  In February 2009, Chef Brian was named one of Hollywood’s Top Ten Most Eligible Bachelors by Access Hollywood.

In addition to his duties at L.A.’s hottest catering company, Hill also maintains his popular web site, ChefBrianOnline.com.  There you can read his wisdom, copy his recipes or scope out his Gourmet Comfort Truck.

Sasha Perl-RaverAs an actress, Sasha Perl-Raver has appeared in several shows since her 2001 debut.  As a chef she started working professionally at age 16.  Sasha graduated from USC with a minor in cinema, was crowned Miss San Francisco in 1999 and baked Lindsay Lohan’s 18th birthday cupcakes.  She has turned show business and the culinary arts into a lifelong pursuit.

But their are many layers to this cheflebrity.  In addition to her work in the kitchen and in front of the camera she is also a well respected food writer having contributed to LA2Day.com, CBS.com, AOL, Fox Atomic and Buzznet.  The New York Daily News declared her “funniest in LA” in September 2005.

Here’s the IMdb plot summary:

At Big City Chefs, Beverly Hills’ premiere private chef placement agency, the only question is who is crazier: the chefs or the clientele? This group of talented chefs is on call 24-7 to cater to the exceedingly over-the-top, wacky, ridiculous and sometimes truly bizarre culinary clientele living the high-life in LA’s poshest neighborhood. Whether they’re appeasing clients who demand haute cuisine be served to their labradoodles, or a bachelorette party where the chefs themselves may be part of the menu, you’ll get a glimpse of the secret world of glamour and craziness where anything is possible. What could be a better recipe for disaster and excitement all at the same time?

Manouschka GuerrierManouschka Guerrier is the curvy, sultry, exotic beauty of the group.  Perhaps too sexy to be a real chef?  Not true.  Though Manouschka is a former model, she is all about the food now, oh and celebrating being a single lady.  Chef Guerrier is chronicling her voyage from private chef to celebrity chef on her blog Single Serving.

Manouschka makes no excuses for her love of the single life, shopping or jewelry recently Tweeting, “Pretty soon California gets to vote to legalize marijuana… can we vote to legalize silver dragées (pearls) too? This ridonkulous ban on my favorite sprinkle BLOWS!”

Chef Stuart O’Keefe is a little eye candy for the ladies.  But O’Keefe is more than just beef cake he’s got a Bachelor of Arts in the Culinary Arts from the Dublin Institute of Technology.  There is no doubt ladies will be swooning over his Irish brogue but they would be remiss to overlook his world class cooking skills.

Chef Stuart (no relation) is also a polished businessman having recently become the spokesperson for Tupperware stating on his site, “I’m privileged to travel around the country offering advice on healthy cooking as well as ideas for getting the most out of Tupperware products.”
